We're absolutely LOVING Capow!

Greetings from the Fresh Academy Watford! So we’ve been shooting Capow! superhero portraits for almost a year now and were absolutely LOVING it!

Capow is just so much fun! For clients they get to dress up as their favourite heroes, get onto a live shooting set with movie grade props and for the photographers, we get to build a cinematic set, use the best lighting equipment in the industry and create amazing imagery. A good Capow! shot looks more like a cinematic film still then a studio portrait! A lot of people don’t realise its all real when they see the images, even cosplayers mostly assume its green screen, which we would NEVER do!……(we are a little bit anti digital backdrops at Fresh!).

Its not really surprising its so popular given the massive rise in interest in the superhero genre as a whole. There are half a dozen new superhero movies released every year, comics have never been more popular and with box office blockbusters like the Avengers being so prevalent Capow! was always going be a huge success.

We’re really proud of how well Capow! has gone down with dozens of Capow! studios now open in the UK and even a few in the US. Capow! is now also on MSC Cruise lines and shows no signs of slowing…….and it all started right here at the Fresh Academy.

Myself and Charlie came up with the idea around a year and a half ago, Charlie got to work designing the sets and props and once we had our first concept set I quickly got to work figuring out the technical bits like the lighting and we started test shooting right away. What we came away with after that first shoot got us so excited, we couldn’t help but go all in and started our cosplay campaigns.

Before long studios were lining up to get involved, people who are into the superhero genre tend to be really passionate about it so again, it was no surprise that the set was so popular.

We now shoot Capow! on a regular basis and has become one of our favourite genres to work with, its fun exciting and we’re always trying new ideas to push the limits of the work we’re producing.
